The Bounty Hunter: A character class for D&D 5th Edition.

A character class for D&D 5th Edition. Bounty Hunters work as swords for hire. Highly trained and motivated, they have a variety of skills to capture or kill their target. They can be righteous lawmen, criminal enforcers or guild mercenaries.


Hit Points

Hit Dice: 1d8 per Bounty Hunter level

Hit Points at 1st Level: 8 + your Constitution modifier

Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d8 (or 5) + your Constitution modifier per Bounty Hunter level after 1st


Proficiencies

Armor: Light and medium armor, shields

Weapons: Simple weapons, martial weapons

Tools: Thieves’ Tools

Saving Throws: Dexterity, Wisdom

Skills: Choose two skills from Acrobatics, Deception, Insight,

Intimidation, Investigation, Perception, Persuasion, Survival.


Equipment

You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:

  • Leather armor and thieves’ tools.

  • A light crossbow and 20 bolts

  • (a) a martial weapon and a shield or (b) two martial weapons

  • (a) a burglar’s pack, (b) a dungeoneer’s pack, or (c) an explorer’s pack



1st Level: Fighting Style You adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can’t take a Fighting Style option more than once. You gain an additional fighting style at 13th level.

Archery You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls you make with ranged weapons.

Defense While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.

Dueling When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.

Protection When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Two-Weapon Fighting When you engage in two-weapon fighting, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of the second attack. 2nd Level: Cunning Action Your quick thinking and agility allow you to move and act quickly. You can take a bonus action on each of your turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action. 3rd Level: Chosen Prey As a bonus action, choose a target within 30ft. You have advantage on all attack rolls made against that target. Use once per Long rest. 4th Level: Ability Score Improvement When you reach 4th level, and again at 6th, 8th, 12th, 14th, 16th, and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature. Using the optional feats rule, you can forgo taking this feature to take a feat of your choice instead. 5th level: Extra Attack Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 11th level in this class. 7th Level: Expert Hunter Choose two of the following skills: Acrobatics, Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Investigation, Perception, Persuasion, Survival. You gain proficiency in those skills. If you are already proficient, you gain double proficiency (Expertise).

9th Level: Hidden Mind you are immune to magic that allows other creatures to read your thoughts or determine whether you are lying. Creatures can telepathically communicate with you only if you allow it. 10th Level: Always Ready You are constantly alert and can react to danger the moment it presents itself. You gain a +5 bonus to initiative. You gain a +1 bonus on all saving throws as long as you are conscious. 15th Level: Ruthless Resolve When you drop to zero hit points, if you are not killed outright, you drop to 1 hit point instead. Use once per long rest. 17th Level: Light Footed Your speed increases 10 feet as long as you are not wearing heavy armor. 18th Level: Unstoppable When pursuing your target, you’ll let nothing stand in your way. You are immune to being restrained, grappled or knocked prone. 20th Level: Thick Skin Years of combat has turned your skin to leather. You gain +2 to your AC. Written by Dan @StayOnYourCouch
