Since I was a child, Super Mario Bros 3 has always been one of my top 5 favorite video games. I wanted to bring a piece of it into my D&D 5th edition game, so I crafted 5 magic items inspired by Mario.
Ring of the Frog
Ring, Uncommon (Requires Attunement)
While you are attuned to this ring, you gain a swim speed of 60 feet per round.
Also, your jump distance is doubled.
The Extra Life Mushroom
Wondrous Item, Rare
As an action, place this mushroom into the mouth of a creature that has died within the last minute. The mushroom will vanish and that creature returns to life with 1 hit point. This item can't return to life a creature that has died of old age, nor can it restore any missing body parts.
Ring of the Fire Flower
Ring, Rare (Requires Attunement)
While wearing this ring, you can use an action to cast the Fire Bolt cantrip. When you attune, choose intelligence, wisdom or charisma. Your ranged spell attack modifier is your proficiency bonus plus the ability modifier you chose when attuning.
Ring of Tanooki
Ring, Vary Rare (Requires Attunement)
While attuned, you gain a flying speed of 30 feet per round. You can fly for up to three rounds. After you have used it to fly, it has one minute cool down before you can use it to fly again. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can turn to stone. While you are stone:
Your Armor Class becomes 25.
you can see and hear, but not speak or move.
You automatically fail all dexterity saving throws.
You have advantage on all other saving throws.
As a bonus action you can return to normal.
You will also turn to normal if you are fall unconscious or are killed.
Warp Whistle
Wondrous Item, Legendary (Requires Attunement)
While attuned, you can use an action to cast the Plane Shift spell. When using the Warp Whistle, you do not need any other material components. Simply choose the plane you wish to travel to and you will arrive. Once you have used the whistle, it cannot be used again until the following dawn.
